Dr. Henry Kikunaga
Dr. Kikunaga is a knowledgeable and well-respected optometrist in the San Diego County area in the optometrist and ophthalmologist community. He was born and raised in the South Bay Area in Northern California and attended the University of California at San Diego (www.ucsd.edu). He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from UCSD.
Dr. Kikunaga then attended the Illinois College of Optometry (www.ico.edu) and graduated with his Doctor of Optometry. He completed his professional externships at:
- The Hudson Valley VA Hospital near New York, NY
- The Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago, IL.
- The Gordon Binder & Weiss Vision Institute in La Jolla, CA
- The Palo Alto VA Hospital near Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA
Dr. Kikunaga is active in not just treating the symptoms or effects of the ocular conditions you may have, but educating patients about the prevention or management of the disease. In his free time, Dr. Henry Kikunaga, teaches and coaches the martial art of Kendo here in San Diego.(www.sdkendo.com/). Dr. Kikunaga is currently (equivalent of) a 4th-Degree Black Belt in Kendo and at present, coaching the UCSD Kendo Team in preparation of their intercollegiate tournaments. In the past, Dr. Kikunaga has placed 3rd in the Junior Division at the United States Kendo Championships and has numerous titles and placings in tournaments across the Western Region.
